2 films I'd recommend for watching to get that whole nice guy/jerk seen up close are
In the Company of Men & Your Friends & Neighbors. Both feature nice guys & jerks & unlike most HOllywood films, there's realism. NO fairy tale BS about how all a girl wants is a nice guy. The jerks grab *ss & take names & besides they're funny than sh*t. The Nice guys get their comeuppance-jacksh*t. Ck 'em out & you'll see behaviors you KNOW will never get you laid & the true-life results. You'll see plenty of confident 'tude on part of jerks.

I am currently watching Don Juan Demarco per Alan's suggestion, but these other two are worth your watch, too.

Watching movies, & seeing chicks it always helps if I ask myself if I could see Steve Mcqueen doing this in real life or if it's an 'Alan Alda thing'. YOu can guess which one will guide MY behavior.

I justed watched In the company of men and I could tell the difference between the jerk and the nice guy. Strange thing though is both guys told this girl they loved her and needed her. Isn't that the worst thing in the book??

thing is the jerk guy actually knew he had her in his pocket before he opened his mouth like that. Also, this is a movie and as such is subject to limitations of the medium. Example: they can't show every scene-i.e. eating, using restroom, getting to some place-& so settle for giving you highpoints to give you a flavor for the character & story. We know what kind of guy Chad Piercewell is from the way he walks, talks, eats a sandwich & talks to chicks.

WheeeW! Like a film class there, but point being, it's just there in that actor's performance. His sneering stride through life. I've taken theatre courses, so this is an abbreviated answer, but an answer nonetheless.

peace out,

lc

I watched both those movies over the weekend.

I was squirming every time I watched the ***** nice-guys in these movies doing things that I've done myself. Ouch.

but hey, I didn't know any better. I do now and I'm getting more and more comfortable with being like the 'jerks' in these movies with women. I've decided that women really are naturally evil manipulative shallow selfish little *****es and that the best thing that could happen to most of them would be for a strong, masculine, no nonsense kind of guy to come into their crummy little lives and insist that they live up to a better standard.

If a woman is bound and determined that SHE sets the agenda and that no man who isnt physically or mentally neuterd is going to be around her, then I don't want anything to do with her anyhow.

But I digress. the movies are fantastic. to me company was a little better but I enjoyed both and learned a lot from both. there aer things I would like to discuss about both movies but I'm going to wait a week or two until everyone has had a chance to see them. I don't want to spoil any plotlines or anything.

Enjoy guys.

Okay, so the fact that he wasn't planning on being with her for LTR made it okay for him to saying he loved her?

Because if he was planning on being with her more, he probably wouldn't have said it?

I feel like an eager student now

I would watch these movie less as by-the-number instructional manuals, & more like stars to guide your actions by.

I'm not saying BE chad or jason patric or anything, but what I am saying is the way they move in either film conveys something about them that is RADICALLY different from the nice guys in either films. If you'll notice aaron eckhart plays a jerk in one & a nice guy in the other. I'm not saying you have to be a great actor like him, but what I am saying we have the capacity for either behavior in us & we all know which one nets the chicks.

Let me compliment you, josh, and say your attitude is totally 'on mark'. You-like many-want to learn & arent' afraid of doing it. That's cool. YOu have a desire & you WiLL find your method. It's that natural.

While we can't say how chad or jason would act in every instance, I would submit that either film is instructive & more real than any Lifetime channel or Alan Alda movie & is therefore, a plus for a dj to watch.

We are, after all, inundated w/ a culture that is very circumspect about covering up certain aspects about male female relations. We pretty it up instead of describe most people's experiences.

I mean, c'mon, when was the last time you ever heard a number one hit about I was a nice guy & now I'm an ass and score lots of chicks?

A few thoughts on these movies now that everyone has had a chance to see them.

In Company of Men the nice guy's major problem was that he refused to see the bad in anyone. Through the whole movie his friend the jerk, who works for him, is taking every opportunity to discredit and embarass co workers that he feels may be a threat to him.

It shouldn't have come as a terribly big surprise at the end where it turns out that the seduction of the 'innocent' girl that the jerk sets up wasn't about the girl at all, but a clever way to occupy his nice guy friend's mind while he sabotaged him and ended up causing him to be demoted. so the jerk gets the guy's job, gets the woman that the guy wants, and in the end Mr. Nice guy still never really gets it.

The other touch that really brought out who the nice guy was and why he got so used was his interaction with the girl. The girl ends up seeing both of them at once. She lets them both pay for all the meals, dates, and on and on. she doesn't tell Mr. Nice Guy that she is in love with the jerk until they are in the middle of a very expensive holiday weekend at a resort. And STILL he sees her as this blameless innocent delicate creature and he is nearly suicidal over what he and his jerk buddy have done to her.

She finds out she's been used and embarassed by the Jerk, has a good cry and gets on with her life apparantly. But in the end teh 'Nice Guy' goes haywire. Too sweet. I think company is an inspirational movie for any recovering nice guy. Once you see what a schmuck this guy is, you'll never EVER let yourself be like that again. :-P

props to you for watching these movies. You obviously did some analyzing of these men, their motives, and the chick's lamo behavior. Yeah, she did want it all on a silver platter, didn't she? Right up until the end.

As closely as you studied their actions, you're going to 'close' on chicks 'cause you're observant & observant guys see the patterns & don't blind themselves w/ b*llsh*t pop culture blindfolds about 'love is sweet & be sensitive and be yourself'.

You see 'em, you call 'em, you act on it & you WILL be that dude w/ chicks that every nice guy envies.

peace out
